Applications

Cleveland BioLabs’s pipeline includes products from two primary families of compounds: Protectans and Curaxins.  Protectans are being developed as drug candidates that protect normal tissues from acute stresses such as radiation, chemotherapy and ischemias (pathologies developed as a result of blocking blood flow to a part of the body).  Curaxins are being developed as anticancer agents that could act as mono-therapy drugs or in combination with other existing anticancer agents.

CBLI’s compounds target several Medical applications, such as cancer treatment, supportive care for cancer treatment, stem cell induction and mobilization and acute organ failure.  Some Protectans, however, also have a dual role in Defense, where there is opportunity to rapidly commercialize applications such as a radiation antidote through an FDA pathway known as the “animal efficacy rule,” which does not require traditional Phase II and III human testing.
